Left Niznhy and Back in Moscow
FEBRUARY 18 - LEAVING NIZHNY AND RETURNING TO MOSCOW
Nik is still doing great, but Mom is ready to leave Nizhny. The combination of the small room, not being able to leave it and the cold weather have made for extreme cabin fever. Below are pictures of Nik and Mom making the most of the day.
In addition to being cooped up in the small hotel room, Nik's cheeks began to get rosey and his nose began to run. Vicki predicted right - teething. Here he is chewing up the hotel's baby bed to soothe his gums.
We first posted that Nik had 6 teeth. We are now happy to report a total of 8 teeth. YEAH, says Nik.
Soothing Nik's teething woes was made easier by the bear we bought for him and delivered during our first trip to meet him in December. Its soothing to him as a familiar reminder of life at the orphanage. Here is Nik and his current best friend, Mr. Bear. We know that his new best friend will be his big brother Trey.
We kept Nik up until we boarded the train about 10:15 p.m. We soon learned that Nik does NOT like the snow suit we bought for him. Screaming abounds when we try to put it on him. As for the train ride, Nik did great! He slept for the full 8 hours. Here he is exhausted, but content to sleep (even in the dreaded snow suit). Yes, we took off the snow suit soon after we boarded the train.
FEBRUARY 19 - ARRIVING IN MOSCOW
We arrived in Moscow at about 6:15 a.m. and tried to check into our hotel room only to be told that our room wasn't ready. We decided to get some breakfast. Vicki felt much better being at the five-star hotel in Moscow with a buffet breakfast fit for royalty and the hotel happily warmed up Nik's food, delivered warm milk and warm pourage. Nik is a good eater, but prefers his food slightly warmed and served on china. Eddie has decided he now has a "Prince" (Nik) and a "Princess" (Vicki). After breakfast we cheked on the status of our room and were told it would be ready at about 9:00 a.m. We had an appointment with a doctor for Nik at 9 a.m. The doctor's visit is a requirement to leave the Russia. So, we begged and received a great room on fourth floor with a series of couches right outside (a bonus to allow a change of scenery throughout the day). We checked in, took a shower and headed to the doctor's office.
Nik screamed the entire time we visited the doctor. He is really becoming attached to us and doesn't care for anyone poking at him that he doesn't know...especially a Russian doctor in a white coat carrying a stethescope. We survived and Nik napped on the way back to the hotel.
This afternoon, Eddie went with Phillip (our coordinator in Moscow) to the U.S. Embassy to begin the process of going home. He got car sick for the second time on this trip (starting and stopping in a hot car in the back seat with tinted windows aren't a good combination for him). He made it back, but collapsed with Nik on the bed in the room. Here is a picture.
Tomorrow we make another visit to the U.S. Embassy for an "interview." We aren't quite sure what that means...but we have learned to remain very flexible throughout this whole process. More to come....

Hey guys~we are so excited for you! Toni emailed us your link. Man what a journey. But well worth the wait! Vicki, I think he looks a lot like you. Wish we could be there to welcome him. Hope we get to meet him someday. God is SO good!
